| Possible UTI? |
[16 Dec 2009|09:35am] |
Hi all,
I've felt some pressure/pain around my clit for a few days now. At first I figured it was because I got both the flu and my annual insomnia simultaneously (slightly raised temperature, sensitive skin, everything hurt for a while, etc.), but both are over today and my clit still feels uncomfortable. It's not a burning or itching feeling, more the kind of slight pressure/pain I normally feel when I really, really have to pee. I feel a sort of lingering pressure just after I've been to the bathroom as well, but I don't have to pee more often than usual, and I haven't noticed any other possible symptoms.
I won't be able to see a doctor until Friday, but should I assume this is the start of a UTI? I've never had one before, so I don't really know what to look for. On top of that, my period starts on Friday - will that complicate things at all?
ETA: Just to add, I know it seems odd for UTI pain to be around my clit, but it's a bit hard to pinpoint. I guess it could be the part of my urethra directly underneath that area.

| General Question |
[16 Dec 2009|03:49pm] |
Just a general and quick question :
I believe I have some sort of cyst on my vagina , and I'd like to get it checked out . However , going to the family doctor is out of the question and the only place I can think of is a planned parenthood clinic that I've been to once before .
My question is : Would they be willing to check my cyst out and perhaps provide treatment ? Most people go to planned parenthood for pregnancy tests , but I'm not sure if they have this type of services available .
If it helps at all , I live in Calgary, Alberta and the clinic I'm talking about is in Downtown on Memorial .

So.
I've been on Lutera for the last three months, with little issue. I use it both to regulate my wacky cycles and as birth control.
I have not experienced any lasting side effects -- the hornomal crazies died away after a couple of weeks, and I haven't gained or lost a significant amount of weight -- BUT.
Now I have one huge boob and one normal one.
Okay, they've both gotten about a cup bigger than they were pre-bc (and one was always a little bigger) but in the last two weeks one took a hit of roids and grew another half cup. This is visibly noticeable and What. The. Hell.
Ideas? Ways to even them out? How did you handle a boob that thought it was the incredible hulk?

Since I've been doing FAM, I've had several instances (pre-ovulation) where my temps have been quite low, as in 96.1, 96.4, 96.5...and my temperature (also pre-ovulation) tends to hover between 96.8 and 97.2 on most days. Is this something to be worried about? Do I have abnormally low temperatures?

| Resumption of periods after Gonapeptyl injections? |
[15 Dec 2009|11:52pm] |
Hi,
I don't know if you will be bale to help me with this, but I thought f anyone was likely to know VPers were!
I have been having regular Gonapeptyl injections in treatment for heavy periods/fibroids side effects/waiting for hysterectomy. I am allowed only 6 of these due to the risk of osteoperosis because the injections stop the ovaries working. I had my last injection on the 18th November. Prior to this I was having an injection every 4 weeks. For the duration of my treatment I was still having random blood loss and cramping, but the loss was minimal as were the cramps.
My question is, when can I expect my periods to start again? do the injections stop the ovaries for 4 weeks, so now that time has passed since my last injection will they start up again and I can expect my first period 28 days(ish, I know it won't be precise), or will the ovaries have been getting up to speed immediately after the last injection so I;ll be due any time soon? I'm still having hot flushes, which I believed were linked to the Ovaries not producing estrogen?
Does anyone have any experience of this? I'm hoping I'll be able to have a blood free christmas - I also have training events booked soon after and am dreading the whole nasty business starting up again.
Thanks in advance!

| hair removal |
[15 Dec 2009|04:43pm] |
Sorry, I looked through the memories but there only seems to be one entry on general hair removal...
Has anyone tried using Veet hair removal creams or a similar product to remove hair down there? How did it work out?
Shaving isn't working out for me and I know I'm too much of a baby to try a Brazilian wax, but something about hair removal creams makes me feel like they won't work very well...

| Bleeding after yeast infection treatment |
[15 Dec 2009|04:59am] |
I had a PAP a few weeks ago and when they called to give me the results last week, they told me I had a yeast infection. They recommended I just do an over the counter treatment, so I picked up the Monistat 3 pack. So for the past three days, I've been using it.
Last night was my last night, but tonight I've noticed that I've been spotting a lot of blood. It doesn't appear to be normal spotting (something I get sometimes due to the fact I skip some periods) and it's rather...chunky. Not in a clot kind of way, but it looks like white something, perhaps discharge or even the cream? The colour is also very very light, almost pink. I would think it's spotting but again, I highly doubt it since this is nothing like the normal spotting I've experienced.
Now, I feel like I should mention the first two nights of treating the infection were rather painful. The inside of my vagina was stinging like crazy, but last night it was okay and didn't hurt since that second night.
Could this be something to do with the treatment? Could it just be normal spotting? Actually, could it even be implantation bleeding? I am on the pill and am meticulous about taking it at exactly the same time every day, but did have my partner ejaculate into me by accident about a week and a half ago.
Thank you!

Jem - [Finally Woken] Stay Now |

I've been using Nuva Ring for about 8 months now, with no problems until now.
At first I was removing the ring on a Monday night, my period would come around Wednesday, be gone by Saturday or Sunday, and I'd insert the new one on Monday. Fine. But as each month has gone by, my period has started coming later and later, and getting closer to when I want to insert the new ring. Last month I was still bleeding lightly on the day I had to put the new ring in.
Today, I've had the ring out for 5 days and only just started my period today. I know I'll still be bleeding heavily/moderately by the time I have to insert the new one this *Thursday. I usually bleed 2-3 days heavily, then another 2 days lightly.
What I'm worried about is, can I still use tampons after I put the new ring in? It's not going to absorb the hormones at all, and reduce how protected I am? I'm not sure if that's a silly question or not, and I forgot to ask my doctor at the time. I don't mind not using tampons for a few days, but if my period is going to keep getting later and later, surely that's a sign my cycle is way out of whack?
Any clues? Thanks.
*I accidentally left the last one in for 3 days too long, but spoke to my doctor and read the booklet, he said that's fine just to take it out, wait 7 days and put a new one in. So now my day is just Thursday instead of Monday, it shouldn't be affecting this lateness tho.

| A bump... |
[15 Dec 2009|05:06pm] |
Hello fellow VPers .
You guys have always given me wonderful advice , so thank you thank you thank you for that =)
I have yet another question/problem today ... I recently found a bump on my vagina . It's no where close to the actual opening or anything , but it is there , and it is painful to the touch . It's sort of in the middle between my clitoris hood and the place where my thigh ends , if that makes sense at all . When I touch it , I can sort of feel that there's some form of liquid inside . It's definitely no mosquito bite .
I've had these before , but they've gone away on their own , and they've never gotten this big . (It's almost the size of a dime now) It's normal skin color and when you take a closer look there's a white dot in the middle of it (very small, the size of the tip of a pin... I wasn't even sure it was part of the bump at first) So I'm not sure what I should do . If I don't touch it , it's fine . If I touch it , it's tender and sort of painful . I'm hoping it'll go away on its own , but it's been a couple days and it just keeps getting bigger and more tender .
Just a side note : I am sexually active but both my boyfriend and I were virgins when we had sex . I looked up genital herpes and warts and it looks nothing like those .
I'm guessing it's some sort of cyst that wont go away ...
So wondering if anyone here had any advice/help ?
Sorry about the lengthy post , but thank you in advance ! =)
EDIT - Today's the day after I made the post , and half of my pubic area is swollen . The white dot is no longer there , and is replaced by a dark pink spot in the center . It just keeps getting bigger . I also do not shave or wax , so I'm not expecting an ingrown hair BUT I understand that it can happen . I just never had one before so I wouldn't know what they are like . I'm thinking of going to planned parenthood to check it out , if it doesn't go away by Thursday/Friday.

| HBC and depression |
[14 Dec 2009|09:00pm] |
hello all! ( background! )
alright! so! I've always been a very emotional person (ever since I was little my mom used to say "you better learn how to control your tears because soon you'll have all these crazy hormones flying and it'll be a lot worse!"), and recently I've been terribly emotional and have experienced waves of depression and anxiety (pms has been a blaaast the past few months, to say the least)
I was wondering if I were to go on the pill if it were to mess up my hormones more and crank up the intensity of my psycho emotional rollercoaster, or if there's not really a way to tell orrrr if it would be a better option (risk wise and money wise) to just try out something else to possibly regulate my moods (I was going to opt for a vit. b complex, I haven't been diagnosed with clinical depression or anything so I wouldn't use anti-depressants or anything)
thanks so much and sorry if that doesn't make any sense!

| don't feel anything before orgasm? |

Hellooo everyone,
I looked in the archives and on Google but couldn't find anything like this. I know a lot of girls started masturbating really young but it didn't really even occur to me until I was like 16. I'm 18 now and I have JUST this year managed to have an orgasm. I've had sex once but it sucked so I'm not even counting it as part of my experience.
Anyway, my problem is that when I do masturbate I feel very little to nothing before I orgasm. I basically feel nothing/very very little sensation for about 10 minutes and then I have an intense but VERY short orgasm. Is it normal to feel nothing before having an orgasm? I know it takes time to know what works for you and it might just be because I haven't found what works best for me, but I've never heard of a girl literally feeling nothing until she comes! Everyone I know or have heard of enjoys the whole masturbation process, not just the end, so I'm a bit confused. Has anything like this happened to anyone here?

| Clue cells present? |
[14 Dec 2009|09:42pm] |
|
What does this mean? I went to the doctor today about my continued YI and the swab from last week was back. The nurse told me it was negative for candida and I took a peek at her computer screen there were a few other notes, I saw the word gonorrhea, am presuming it was negative or she would have told me. But there was a note saying 'clue cells present'. What does this mean? Aren't they associated with BV? Does this mean I do have BV or is it normal to have some clue cells?

| Could it be herpes? |
[14 Dec 2009|02:09am] |
So, I've been having a hell of a time for the past few months with lady issues. I posted a while back about all the uterine troubles I was having, followed by a post about getting a UTI while on antibiotics for a uterine infection, now... ugh, I'm just tired of my bits being out of whack.
It started with the UTI. A few days after the initial UTI symptoms, I started taking bactrim. Then I started having this horrible intense ache in my vulva. It felt like my vulva weighed a thousand pounds and was trying to fall off. Throughout the day, I started having skin pain, that felt like a sunburn, but there was no rash or fever or swelling. That spread up my butt, and onto the backs of my thighs. Over the next few days, the pain spread down my legs, to the bottoms of my feet, up my belly and back, and down my arms. Accompanying the skin pain was this terrible bone tenderness, that ended up causing me to have to gimp around, and it got to the point that I spent most of my time in the bathtub, because it was the only thing that gave me any relief. The skin pain has since passed, along with the ache in my vulva, but I still have some bone tenderness, though it is significantly better.
During that time, I asked my SO to poke around downstairs to see if anything looked amiss. He noticed a couple of little spots on my vulva, but he would poke them, and they didn't hurt. Only one hurt, and it was near my anus.
I went to the doctor on Thursday (about a week after all the symptoms started) and the spots were all gone except for the one near my anus. She said she didn't think it could be herpes because there was no pain (I guess she didn't listen when I told her that one did hurt,) and suggested that they had been strawberry spots, because I did have a pretty significant yeast infection from back to back antibiotics. She said the pain I'd been having over my body was probably a viral infection. So I didn't get a whole lot of answers there. (The nurse also suggested the pain could be from fibromyalgia, though the doctor didn't mention it.)
Now I have two more spots near my anus, and they hurt, too. They look like little canker sores, very small, shallow abscesses, they hurt like hell. They seem a lot like herpes to me, especially with the other symptoms like UTI like pain.
But, I don't know how I could've gotten it. My boyfriend and I have been monogamous for just short of year, and nothing like this has ever happened. I had unprotected sex with another guy right before my boyfriend, but he has since has a full STD screening, and is STD-free, and he's never had any sort of outbreak. I was under the impression that if my boyfriend had it, he would've had some sort of symptoms, but he hasn't, and it I'd gotten it before him, I would have had some sort of symptoms at least a little earlier. But I don't really know that much about it, I guess. It seems a lot like what I've read about herpes... does it seem reasonable that that is what's happening?
The big one is pretty obvious, on the right side of the pic, it was the first one. One is a little below that, and the third is just a little bump on the other side of my anus.

| Off HBC - Weight Gain |
[14 Dec 2009|12:36am] |
I've been off HBC for a good month or so, now. The unfortunate thing is that I really liked it (it was Ocella - I've tried other HBCs in the past which made me crazy-go-nuts), but because I smoke 1+ pack a day, and haven't quit yet, my OBGYN advised I stop taking it.
The funny thing is, after I stopped, my appetite increased quite a bit. I have a large appetite regardless, and a high metabolism for it, but since I've stopped taking Ocella, seems my metabolism's slowed down. I've gained 10 pounds.
Still awaiting my period. No risk of pregnancy to account for the weight gain. If my metabolism has changed, will it go back to normal once I get my period? I feel so uncomfortable.
Thank you

| Missed pills |
[13 Dec 2009|09:34pm] |
I missed three days of birth control pills, due to my last pack of pills going missing. I started a new pack on Thursday. This Friday, there is a fairly good chance I will end up having PIV sex with a man.
I'm allergic to latex, and I know the condoms break easily. If the condom does break, what are my chances of getting pregnant?

[13 Dec 2009|07:39pm] |
Hi. Thanks to all who offered help and support in my last post. I went to the doctor and I do have genital herpes. I have mostly gotten over the grief and fear, and am now just trying to deal. They gave me a shot in my bum, and I didn't hurt for the whole night.
They gave me Valtrex and some tylenol with codeine, which I'm taking as prescribed, but this still really HURTS. I still have to go to work, and I am just in constant pain. Sitting, walking, peeing, pretty much anything that isn't lying down with my legs apart causes me great pain. My only solution so far is to pour warm water on myself as I'm urinating. And it's just really red and swollen and icky down there.
Is there anything I could be doing for the pain, or to make this go away faster, besides taking my meds? Thank you all for your help.

This may be a stupid question but.. I have been on the pill for 3 years straight. Reccently I had to skip this (and next month) because my PPH is closedd due to swine..
I was just wondering.. when I go back on the pill, will I suffer the initial side effects again (ex. weight gain)?

| suddenly unhappy vagina! :[ |
[13 Dec 2009|06:47pm] |
I'm a virgin but I recently started fooling around a bit with this guy who is not a virgin. He stayed over from Tuesday to Thursday, during which there was much fingering and some oral sex. Thursday morning I woke up feeling kind of itchy, but figured it would eventually go away. It's Sunday and it definitely, definitely hasn't gotten better. I've never ever been itchy like this before. At first I was scratching so hard I think I made myself bleed, but since then I've been trying to stop. Pressing a cold washcloth up against my vagina helps for a bit, but the itching does eventually come back.
The itchiness is mainly focused in the area between my clitoris and urethra, although both can start itching if I scratch a bit. If I rub at my clitoris to relieve the itching, the tip gets VERY red and inflamed. I've noticed some swelling of my inner lips as well, close to the vaginal opening.
I figure I have thrush or some kind of yeast infection. I wanted to get Monistat but they all suggested I see a doctor first (I don't have any doctors nearby, all my doctors are at home, a 3 hour drive away that I won't be making until Thursday).
Anyway! My question is: I bought Vagisil Satin anti-itch creme but it says it's for external use only. What exactly is external? Can I use it on the area that actually itches, around my urethra? Can I go and get one of those Monistat treatments despite not being diagnosed?
ETA: Thanks for the comments everyone! I went ahead and used the Vagisil where I needed it. It stung for a while but when it FINALLY worked, I've been itch-free for hours. Except now I feel like I have a mild UTI coming on (pressure in my bladder that feels like urgency--I get this often) but at least I don't want to tear my vagina off of my body anymore. :P

| Telling my guy that I have HPV... |
[13 Dec 2009|06:28pm] |
So, I think I'll be telling him on Tuesday night that I have HPV because I want it off my conscience (it's been driving me to tears when I'm left to myself to think about it) and I want to sleep with him. So far he has risen above my expectations in every capacity so I'm hoping for the best in this situation. I'm trying to arm myself with facts that could put his mind at ease. Here's what I have so far:
- I won't be having anal sex with him, so chances of anal cancer are near 0%. - You can't get cervical cancer because you don't have a cervix. - 75-80% of sexually active people get it in their life. - Men usually get rid of the virus after 6 months, if they have a healthy immune system. - Only 1 in 100,000 men get penile cancer from it. - Using a condom prevents contracting the disease up to 70%. - I'm not sure if I even still have it because I haven't been tested for it since the summer.
Anything else I can tell him? I'm still pretty sure that I'll end up in tears when I tell him, but...

| AGHHHH! More itching and soreness in vagina |
[13 Dec 2009|12:38pm] |
So, apparently I am condemned to a life of this, as no matter how many times I go to the doctor and get tests, it never gets sorted out.As I posted recently, I thought I had a yeast infection a couple months back and treated it with OTC medication. This seemed to work, but then not even a week later I needed to go on antibiotics for a tooth infection, and all the itching and swelling came back. I went to the doctor, as I wanted to confirm that it was a YI and not something else, but she didn't even take a look and just gave me a prescription for more yeast medication. So again I took it, and things appeared to settle down, but then a few days ago, started up AGAIN. I went to the doctor again, as I also had some abdominal pain which concerned me (although I suffer from IBS so it's hard to know if it's that or something else). She told me it was probably another YI, but she also took a low vaginal swab (which I understand isn't as useful as a high vaginal swab) and told me to call in a week for results. I did take the YI medication but as yet it hasn't made any difference. I was now worried about BV and whatever else, so I'm seeing the nurse tomorrow for more swabs. What should I say/ask? I just feel like I'm not being taken seriously. And now because I took the stupid YI medication (pessary + cream) a few days ago, I'm afraid it will corrupt the swabs. Ai ai ai.
Sorry for whining. But this will be about the 9th set of vaginal swabs/exam this year. I'm so drained and tired of it all. It is not normal. I've had the same boyfriend for over a year, have had very few partners, always use condoms and had a full STD screening in January which was all clear. What the hell is going on.

Okay.. I'm freaking out a little bit.
I had sex with a guy last night. We didn't use a condom, but he said he had an STD test a month ago. I'm not worried about pregnancy because I have an IUD. Now I'm just freaking out thinking "what if?" He's in the Army and I know how they keep up with their soldiers - they won't allow you to deploy without having your wisdom teeth removed. They're serious about the health of their soldiers.
Can someone ease my mind? A little? Or did I really screw up?

| More room than there should be? |
[12 Dec 2009|09:48pm] |
(first-time poster, long-time lurker, all that)
Okay, so I've been having some weird problems with tampons lately. I've used them comfortably for years, and switched from applicator version to OB brand in the summer. I've never had any problem with them until this period. For some reason as soon as the whole thing is in and I go to push it further up, it turns sideways or completely upside down! Has anyone else had this happen to them, or is there some sort of goblin up there causing mischief?
The only thing I can think of to explain it is that I'm being treated for vulvodynia and vaginismus and have been doing my relaxation exercises as I insert it to keep it off the painful spots. However, I don't think that's what's causing all of the acrobatics up there, simply because the exercises are supposed to help me get my muscle tension back to normal (for scale my doctor said that 'normal' tension is 2, and mine was at 6.76. I've got it down from that, but not far enough to make tampon acrobatics possible.) It's not super-painful, just really weird.
(Oh and I haven't given birth, and given the vulvodynia have not been having intercourse with my partner.)
Anyone had a similar problem?

| Orgasms |
[13 Dec 2009|12:14am] |
Hey everyone,
I'm 20 and have been masturbating pretty regularly since I was 13 or 14, so sex and orgasms are nothing new for me. For various reasons (including a septate hymen that is still intact), penetration has never been a significant part of my sexual activities, both solo and with others. I've found my g-spot before, but that only makes things marginally more intense -- it isn't as amazing as it's usually described. Even when it isn't painful, penetration doesn't seem to do much for me -- in fact, I can count the number of times I've orgasmed while being penetrated on one hand. (heh)
Today, for the first time, my partner was able to make me orgasm while penetrating me (one finger) -- this was the first time it's ever happened with someone who wasn't me. The orgasm didn't feel different from orgasms I have from clitoral stimulation alone, which was also involved today. Afterwards, we discussed how my vaginal walls don't tighten and spasm as seems typical (both based on our sexual experiences and what we know of others') -- in fact, if whether I was orgasming was based solely off of what was going on in my vagina, there would be no way to tell. I had observed this previously while masturbating, but thought that it might be different with someone else involved.
So, vagpag -- has anyone else noticed something similar? I'm not terribly worried about it, but I'm rather curious -- surely, there must be a reason out there somewhere!
ETA: Another thought -- I Kegel a few times a week and use a Diva Cup, so I know that my Kegels function and such.

| BV? and debating vinegar or peroxide rinse. |
[13 Dec 2009|12:11am] |
For about 3 months during the summer I dealt with what I assume was BV. Itchiness, yellow discharge, fishy smell, burny/painful sex. When I came back home after spending the summer with my boyfriend, it seemed to gradually go away on its own. However, I don't think everything down there is entirely back to normal. For one, I don't seem to have ever reacquired my normal scent. I've still got a rather strong smell going on, though nothing fishy. I've been having some mild itchiness on and off, too. I suspect it's a pH sort of issue rather than yeast, but I don't know.
I'm leaving to visit my boyfriend again in a week and I would really like to have any issues cleared up before then, as I'm afraid sex will only worsen things. I want to try a vinegar or peroxide douche, but, despite having read many success stories here, I'm afraid of throwing things more out of whack than they already are. I was thinking about using one or the other and then inserting some plain yogurt after waiting a bit. Any thoughts or experiences?

| 6+ months of angry vaginal/vulvar issues.. Please help! |
[12 Dec 2009|05:14pm] |
Hi Everyone! I made a LJ account specifically to post here, hoping that one of you amazing superstars might be able to help me! I'm desperate at this point.. I'm 23 years old and have been having major angry vagina/vulva issues for the last 6+ months or so.. Here is a play by play of what's been going on: ( Read more... ) So... Does anyone have any idea what is going on with my vagina?! This is beyond frustrating and is eating away at my quality of life. I'm depressed and exhausted and never want to do anything because even sitting still causes discomfort. Could it be Stevens-Johnson syndrome? VIN? Systemic yeast? Punishment for getting an abortion? I'm at a loss.. Someone please help!

| Sore spot |
[13 Dec 2009|12:09am] |
To get straight to the point, I have a small spot on the inside of my labia. At first I could feel it there and checked it out but it was the same colour as the rest of that area so I didn't worry much. However, a few days later and it still hasn't gone.
I wouldn't be that concerned except it's sore now. It doesn't hurt unless I touch it. It's about a centimetre above the clitoris, a little to the right. I haven't had sex for two months and that was with a woman so I think it's unlikely (if not impossible) that it's some kind of STI. Could anyone reassure me that it's just a random spot and will go away? Or should I go to the doctor?

| Pregnancy? |
[12 Dec 2009|06:16pm] |
Alright, so my best friend had unprotected sex with her ex-boyfriend on Halloween. They did, however use the withdrawal method, but this was just their second time having sex together, as well as her second time EVER having sex (his third), so I don't know how well that carried through. She's 18, and he's 19. Her period is now about two weeks late. (Halloween was the day after she had just finished having her period.) Last year, her period was pretty wonky, but around June it's been pretty consistent coming every month..until now. Today, she's been throwing up and has had a slight fever. So...is it possible she's pregnant? Thanks in advance!

My period ended last week, but I am still having cramps. They are usually pretty quick and only at one side at a time. They feel pretty high up where my ovaries are. I do have my tubes tied. Is this normal or should I get it checked out?
